‘The Morning Show’ To End With Season 5, Set for 2027 Premiere

Apple has announced that its flagship drama series The Morning Show will conclude with its upcoming fifth season. The final season is currently in production and is slated to premiere in 2027.

The show, starring and executive produced by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, was among the first original titles to launch Apple TV+ in November 2019. According to Deadline, the decision to end the series was not a surprise, as there had been prior talk the show was heading toward its finish line.

Season five is currently filming, with a release window set for 2027. Historically, the series has followed a pattern of September premieres for its recent seasons, suggesting a similar timeframe for the finale. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the exact release date will be announced at a later time.

As one of Apple TV+’s inaugural series, The Morning Show has been a critical and awards mainstay for the platform. According to its official awards summary, the show has won four Primetime Emmy Awards from a total of 131 nominations. The show’s co-heads at Apple, Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, called it “one of the defining series of our time” in a statement.

Showrunner Charlotte Stoudt, who took over in season three, framed the final season’s mission. “For five seasons, these messy, resilient journalists have chased their dreams. Now we’ll see where their endeavors lead them — what story will they ultimately choose for themselves,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

Who will be in the final season?

The core ensemble, including Aniston, Witherspoon, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, and Jon Hamm, will return. Season five will also introduce a host of new stars. Deadline reports that Jeff Daniels, Jesse Williams, Sean Hayes, Lizzy Caplan, and Reneé Rapp are joining the cast for the final run.

In their statements, the series’ leads reflected on the journey. “From the beginning, Apple has supported our vision for The Morning Show, and we feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to tell stories that reflect what’s happening in the world around us with a twist of dark humor,” said Aniston.

Witherspoon added, “The past nine years producing and acting in The Morning Show have been the honor of a lifetime. This was always more than a show about a newsroom — it was a show about why the newsroom matters.”

The series is produced by Media Res in association with Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Aniston’s Echo Films. With its conclusion, Apple highlighted its ongoing creative partnerships with many of the show’s key talent, who have other projects in development at the streamer.
