Hello Sunshine’s Lauren Neustadter confirmed development has begun on a third season of the HBO drama series “Big Little Lies,” according to a report from Variety. Neustadter is the president and head of TV and film at the production company founded by Reese Witherspoon.
The upcoming season will be based on author Liane Moriarty’s upcoming sequel book, “Big Little Truths,” and will feature the return of core cast members Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, and Laura Dern. The series, which first aired in 2017, is a tale of three mothers of first graders whose apparently perfect lives unravel to the point of murder.
What is the status of 'Big Little Lies' Season 3?
The project is currently in development, with the producing team immersed in the source material. “We are 100% immersed in the book, and in thoughtful conversation about the adaptation and about the characters,” Neustadter told Variety. She emphasized the collaborative nature of the production, calling it a “true team effort” involving HBO, the actresses, and the creative team.
What else is next for Hello Sunshine?
The company has a busy slate ahead as it nears its 10-year anniversary this fall. In addition to “Big Little Lies” Season 3, Neustadter said Hello Sunshine is looking forward to the release of the second season of “Elle” on Amazon’s Prime Video, the fifth season of “The Morning Show,” and the Sony Pictures film “The Nightingale” in 2027. The company recently premiered the series “Elle” and the Apple TV+ miniseries “Lucky,” starring Anya Taylor-Joy.
Neustadter reflected on the company’s mission, which from the start focused on creating opportunities for women in front of and behind the camera. “It was all equally important to us, and it was really a core part of the mission of Hello Sunshine,” she said.
