RoboCop Series Lands 8-Episode Order at Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video has officially picked up a series version of “RoboCop,” according to a report from Variety. The streamer has given the show an eight-episode order.

The project has been in development since Amazon acquired MGM in 2022. The company is looking to capitalize on its access to MGM's intellectual property library for new film and television projects.

Who is behind the new RoboCop series?

Peter Ocko will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett will executive produce via Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Ed Neumeier, co-creator and co-writer of the original 1987 film, will also serve as an executive producer.

In a statement, Wan expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “I’ve been a massive fan of ‘RoboCop’ forever, so getting to help bring this world to television is a dream,” said Wan. He added that Peter Ocko's vision would honor the original while building something new for a modern audience.

An official logline for the series states, “A giant tech conglomerate convinces the city to place a powerful robot on its police force – a robot implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer.” This premise echoes the core conflict of man, machine, and corporate power from the original film.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, called the franchise a “sharp, provocative mirror of our relationship with technology and power.” He stated the series aims to honor the original while building something fresh for today's audience.
