James Wan Developing ‘RoboCop’ TV Series for Prime Video

A new RoboCop television series is in development at Prime Video, according to a report from TheWrap. The eight-episode project is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

Peter Ocko, known for his work on Lodge 49 and Pushing Daisies, will serve as executive producer, showrunner, and writer for the series. James Wan will executive produce through his Blumhouse Atomic Monster banner. Edward Neumeier, who co-wrote the original 1987 film, is also attached as an executive producer.

What did James Wan say about the series?

In a statement, Wan expressed his enthusiasm for the project. "I’ve been a massive fan of ‘RoboCop’ forever, so getting to help bring this world to television is a dream," he said. He noted that the original film's themes about technology and corporate power have only grown more urgent.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, added that the franchise has served as a "sharp, provocative mirror of our relationship with technology and power" for nearly four decades. He stated that Ocko's vision honors the original while building something fresh for a new audience on Prime Video.

The original RoboCop, directed by Paul Verhoeven, was a satirical sci-fi action film that became a pop culture icon. The new series marks its latest adaptation following several sequels and spin-offs.
