Moana Box Office Day 11: Adds $2.2 Million as Domestic Total Hits $83.2 Million

The Voyage Begins

Disney’s live-action Moana has launched, bringing the beloved animated adventure to a new generation with a fresh cast led by teenage heroine Moana and Dwayne Johnson’s charismatic demigod Maui.

The film retells the story of teenage Moana, who answers the Ocean's call and voyages beyond the reef of her island home, Motunui. She teams up with the infamous, shape-shifting demigod Maui on an unforgettable journey across the sea to restore prosperity to her people. Directed by Thomas Kail, this 115-minute family fantasy adventure blends comedy and heartfelt storytelling.

The ensemble is led by Catherine Lagaʻaia, who steps into the title role of the determined voyager Moana. Dwayne Johnson returns to voice and portray the larger-than-life demigod Maui. They are joined by Rena Owen as the wise Gramma Tala, John Tui as Moana's father, Chief Tui, and Frankie Adams as her mother, Sina. Jemaine Clement brings the villainous giant crab Tamatoa to life, while Emma Puahi-Shapazian and Amaya Masoli also portray Moana at different ages. It is a celebration of Pacific Islander talent.

Moana has grossed $83,239,043 at the domestic box office, 11 days into its theatrical run, while playing across 4,200 theaters. The film added $2,220,015 in its most recent day of release. Worldwide, it has taken in $116 million. It carries a reported production budget of $250 million.
