Erin Moriarty Reveals She Filmed a 'Boys' Sex Scene With a 'Second Head' in Her Armpit
The Starlight actress says a severe staph infection, fueled by Graves' disease, didn't stop a season two night shoot.

What does a superhero do when a real-life villain shows up on set? For Erin Moriarty, she just powered through.
The actress recently revealed on the MeSsy podcast that filming a sex scene for The Boys became a much more intense challenge due to a serious health crisis. According to E! News, Moriarty shared that during season two, she developed a "really, really bad staph infection" while run down from her Graves' disease, an autoimmune condition.
"I had one night for example early on in the show, season two, where I was so run down that I developed a really, really bad staph infection," Moriarty said on the June 30 podcast episode. "I couldn’t move my right arm but I had a night shoot and I told production."
She didn't mince words describing the situation to the crew: "I was like, ‘Guys, I have a second head growing out of my armpit—even if we wanted to go through with this, this is what it looks like.’"
Despite the graphic description, the scene—reportedly filmed with co-star Jack Quaid, who played her love interest Hughie Campbell—went ahead. Moriarty noted she simply kept her right arm immobile. "I still made it through the night shoot," she said.
For Moriarty, this was part of a larger pattern of pushing through illness. "I dipped so badly in my health while I was filming," she admitted. "My identifier going through this autoimmune illness was that I would suffer for my art."
She described a mindset of extreme endurance: "I can be afraid that maybe I won’t wake up tomorrow because I’ve got a really invasive staph infection and I can’t move my right arm. But I will show up and I will do whatever I have to do to show that I’m a good sport and a good player."
It wasn't until the final season of the show that a friend intervened. "My best friend is the one who saw me and knows who I am and said, ‘You need to get your blood work now,’" Moriarty recalled.
Her revelation offers a stark behind-the-scenes look at the physical demands actors sometimes face, even during scenes meant to look effortless.
No official statement has been released by representatives for The Boys or its production team regarding Moriarty's account of the filming conditions.
