Did you know Ayo Edebiri’s real name? Her The Bear costar Jeremy Allen White certainly didn’t.

In a GQ friendship quiz, the Emmy winner revealed her famous moniker is a nickname. Her full birth name is Funmilayo Edebiri. The moment came after White struggled to recall it. "There’s Ayo in it, but it’s not your name," White said, according to E! News. "Your first name is not Ayo. The last three letters of your first name is Ayo."

Fans on TikTok were baffled by White’s forgetfulness. One commented, "He doesnt even know her NAME ???" Another noted their sibling-like dynamic, writing, "My brother answering questions about me." Many were captivated by the name itself, with one user stating, "Funmilayo is a beautiful name."

The actress has previously shared the meaning behind her names. "Ayo means ‘joy,’" she told W Magazine. "It’s short for Funmilayo, which means ‘Give me joy.’"

While she spreads joy, Edebiri has one clear pet peeve. "I hate when people write a message to me, or send an email to me, or send one to anybody, and they spell your name wrong in the email or in the message. That’s just so frustrating to me," she said. It seems her specific request for her last name is: "Two E’s, two I’s, please."
