Nick Offerman to Deadline

Nick Offerman is currently performing in a Chicago musical while celebrating two Emmy nominations, according to an interview with Deadline. The actor received nods for his role as Vice President Chester A. Arthur in Netflix's limited series Death by Lightning and for playing wrestler Jinx in Apple TV+'s comedy Margo's Got Money Troubles.

Speaking from his dressing room at the Goodman Theatre, Offerman is starring with his wife Megan Mullally in Iceboy! Or The Completely Untrue Story of How Eugene O'Neill Came to Write The Iceman Cometh. "Despite my participation," he says, "it is so funny. We're sold out for the rest of the summer." He calls working with Mullally a major bonus, describing her as a "superhero at musical comedy."

What did he say about his Emmy-nominated roles?

For Death by Lightning, an adaptation of Candice Millard's book about President James A. Garfield, Offerman was thrilled to indulge his love of history. He praised writer Mike Makowsky as "brilliant" and "very likable." The actor did extensive research for the role, reading Scott Greenberger's book The Unexpected President. "It was such a lush production," Offerman said. "It's crazy that Netflix greenlit it and let us make this beautiful."

He felt a personal connection to his character Jinx in Margo's Got Money Troubles, who struggles with addiction and estrangement. Offerman said he's been lucky to have success in the "arena of superficiality" but has learned not to let it go to his head. "Like any jackass, I've had to have moments of comeuppance and learn that all of that is wonderfully good fortune," he reflected.
