Nara Smith Shares the "Hardest Parts" of Her Daughter's Cancer Journey
The influencer opens up about grieving the loss of her toddler's hair—and celebrates its return.

What does a mother grieve when her child has cancer? For Nara Smith, it's the small, daily rituals—like brushing her daughter's hair.
One week after revealing her 2-year-old daughter Whimsy is battling cancer, the 24-year-old influencer shared a raw and emotional look at one specific heartbreak: hair loss. In a July 7 Instagram post, Nara detailed how the physical changes brought on by treatment have been among the most difficult parts of the journey.
"Cancer has a way of taking things you never realized you’d grieve," Nara shared, according to E! News. She described the moment she realized her daughter's time with a full head of hair was limited: "The day I ran my fingers through her hair, strands coating them, I realized I wouldn’t be brushing Whimsy’s hair much longer."
She noted the profound shift in perspective, writing, "It’s such a small thing until it isn’t." The loss became a constant, visible reminder of their new reality. "Tiny curls on her pillow," she continued. "Hair caught in my fingers after bath time. Hair loss is one of the first visible reminders that life has changed."
Nara, who is also mom to Rumble Honey, 5, Slim Easy, 3, and Fawnie, 10 months, with husband Lucky Blue Smith, and stepmom to Gravity Blue, 8, explained the deeper meaning behind those lost strands. "It wasn’t just hair," she detailed. "It was the little curls I tucked behind her ears, the wispy strands that caught the sunlight, and all the ordinary moments I never imagined I’d miss."
She summed up the emotional toll simply: "Watching Whimsy lose hers has been one of the hardest parts of this journey."
Despite the pain, Nara emphasized that her vulnerability has a purpose. "If sharing these pieces of our story helps even one family feel less alone, or encourages one person to learn more about childhood cancer, then this vulnerable part of our lives is worth opening," she wrote.
The post ends on a hopeful note—a sign of progress and resilience. "Today her curls are returning," Nara shared. She has also celebrated her daughter's strength in other ways, previously posting a photo of Whimsy's bald head adorned with rhinestones and calling her a "Little warrior girl."
