Hayden Panettiere and Tori Spelling Bail on Horror Convention

What happens when two horror icons suddenly can't make it to the convention? Fans at Creep I.E. Aftermath found out this weekend.

Both Hayden Panettiere and Tori Spelling canceled their scheduled appearances at the Ontario, Calif., horror convention on July 11 and July 12, the event organizers confirmed. The convention announced the news on Instagram on July 10.

"Hayden Panettiere has an emergency and will not be able to attend this weekend," Creep I.E. Con shared in a statement. "We are looking forward to her appearing at an upcoming show." A representative for Panettiere later told People the cancellation was due to a private family matter concerning the health of an elderly relative.

Spelling's exit was announced in a similar fashion. "Tori Spelling has an emergency and can no longer attend," the organization wrote. "New replacement guest announced later today." The convention later announced Dominique Swain and Brian Austin Green as apparent replacements for Panettiere and Spelling, respectively.

The cancellations meant fans missed a promised "very rare" reunion between Panettiere and a Scream 4 costar.

Panettiere and Spelling were not the only expected guests who dropped out. According to the Creep I.E. Con website, Christina Ricci, John Carroll Lynch, Carel Struycken, Jimmy Workman, and Kevin Durand also either rescheduled or canceled their appearances.

36, the cancellation comes as she navigates life in the spotlight while also being a mom. In a past interview, she reportedly shared her thoughts on her daughter's potential interest in acting. "I started getting calls from my 11-year-old about being interested in the industry," Panettiere said. "I always want to support whatever she wants to do, but I am trying to guide her towards, let's not rush into anything. Why don't you try a few things out and have a college experience?"

E! News has reached out to representatives for both Panettiere and Spelling for comment but has yet to hear back.
