Chris Brown Pleads Guilty in U.K. Court Over 2023 Nightclub Attack

Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray in the United Kingdom for his role in a 2023 nightclub assault, according to Variety. His co-defendant, vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, also entered a guilty plea to the same charge.

Brown entered his plea at Southwark Crown Court. The hearing reportedly lasted less than five minutes.

What happened at the nightclub?

The incident took place at the Tape London nightclub in Mayfair in February 2023. According to the U.K.’s Crown Prosecution Service, Brown twice hit an unnamed victim on the head with a glass bottle while Akinlolu punched him. The CPS stated that the pair continued their assault as the victim tried to flee through the club. The victim was reportedly kicked while defenseless on the floor before seeking hospital treatment for injuries to his head and knees.

Prosecutor Claire Campbell described the event as a "vicious and unprovoked attack by Brown and Akinlolu in a crowded nightclub where Brown used a glass bottle as a weapon to strike the victim’s head twice." She added, "This kind of violence is entirely unacceptable."

What happens next?

Brown and Akinlolu will be sentenced in October 2026. According to reports, the two men were present in court for the plea hearing. More serious charges of assault and grievous bodily harm, which they denied, were dropped, as was a separate charge against Brown of possessing an offensive weapon.

A warrant for their arrest was issued after the victim went to the hospital, but both men had already left the U.K. Brown was arrested in May 2025 when he returned to the country to perform in Manchester as part of a world tour.
