Karlovy Vary Film Festival Awards Fruit Gathering, Honors Binoche and Wright

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival crowned its 60th edition winners, with Aung Phyoe’s Fruit Gathering taking the Grand Prix – Crystal Globe, the event's highest honor.

Who else won major awards?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mads Mengel’s The Guest was a double winner, receiving the Special Jury Prize and the award for Best Director. The main competition jury praised Fruit Gathering as “a lush and meditative portrait of work and friendship before morphing, unexpectedly and organically, into a harrowing drama of obsession and queer desire.” It commended The Guest for its precise modulation and squirmingly funny drama.

What happened in the Proxima competition?

The festival's Proxima competition, focused on bold works by emerging filmmakers, awarded its Grand Prix to Martina Buchelová’s Lover, Not a Fighter. The jury said the film arrives “tenderly, gathering the quotidian moments and relationships that make up the substance of life.” The Proxima Special Jury Prize went to Shuntaro Uchida’s Incinerator, described as a film of deceptive simplicity and profound subtlety.

Which actors received special honors?

The closing ceremony also featured major career tributes. Juliette Binoche was honored with the KVIFF Crystal Globe Award for her outstanding contribution to world cinema. Jeffrey Wright received the festival's President's Award.
