Orbital Studios Moves Virtual Production Operations to Los Angeles's Television City
The virtual production company is setting up shop at the historic studio lot, aiming to keep high-end creative work and production spending local.

“Walking these stages, you feel the weight of what was made here. Generations of crews poured everything they had into these rooms. That legacy makes us determined to get it right.”
Virtual production company Orbital Studios is moving its operations to the historic Television City studio lot in Los Angeles, according to Deadline. The relocation expands the company's global presence through a new strategic partnership.
Orbital, established in 2020, provides art teams, tools, and software pipelines designed to make virtual production faster and more budget-friendly while maintaining high visual quality. The move is positioned as a counter to the trend of high-end productions relocating to other states and countries, with the goal of enabling crews to capture global locations without leaving Los Angeles.
“Walking these stages, you feel the weight of what was made here,” said A.J. Wedding, founder and CEO of Orbital Studios. “Generations of crews poured everything they had into these rooms. That legacy makes us determined to get it right.”
What is Orbital Studios' recent work?
The company's recent credits include Netflix's Nemesis and FX's Justified: City Primeval. It is also currently in production on FX's upcoming series The Drop: A Snowfall Saga and contributed to History Channel's World War II docuseries with Tom Hanks.
Television City, which has hosted iconic shows like All in the Family and The Price Is Right for nearly 75 years, welcomed the partnership. “Their work puts this lot among the most advanced production environments anywhere, while honoring everything these stages have stood for,” said Anthony Mazziotti, Executive Director of Stage Operations and Marketing at Television City Studios.
What does this move mean for Los Angeles?
The partnership aims to leverage cutting-edge virtual production technology to keep creative jobs and significant production spending within the local Los Angeles economy. By allowing productions to simulate distant locations on a local soundstage, the model seeks to offer a compelling alternative to filming abroad.
