Morgan Spector is in negotiations to star as Robert Langdon in Netflix's upcoming series based on Dan Brown's book "The Secret of Secrets," according to Variety. The actor, known for his role as George Russell on HBO's "The Gilded Age," would step into the role of the famed Harvard symbologist for a new television adaptation.
Rebecca Hall is also in talks for the female lead in the series, which was ordered at Netflix in May 2025. The logline for the show states, "Symbologist Robert Langdon (Spector) races against ancient forces and time to rescue a missing scientist (Hall) and her groundbreaking manuscript whose discoveries have the power to forever change humanity’s understanding of the mind."
Who is making the series?
Dan Brown and Carlton Cuse are co-creators and executive producers on the series, with Cuse also serving as showrunner under his Genre Arts banner. Emma Forman of Genre Arts also executive produces. According to Deadline, filming is slated to begin this fall in Prague, where the book is set.
What does this mean for 'The Gilded Age'?
This casting does not mean a departure from HBO's "The Gilded Age" for Spector. According to sources, he would be able to do both series with proper scheduling should "The Gilded Age" get renewed for a fifth season. The show's fourth season is expected to come out this fall.
What is the source material?
"The Secret of Secrets" is the sixth book in Brown's Robert Langdon series, published in 2025. The novels have sold over 250 million copies worldwide and have been translated into 56 languages. Three of the books have been adapted into feature films starring Tom Hanks as Langdon. A separate series based on "The Lost Symbol," starring Ashley Zukerman as a younger Langdon, aired for one season on Peacock in 2021.
A representative for Netflix declined to comment on the casting reports.

What other projects have Morgan Spector and Rebecca Hall done?
