Malia Baker Discusses Returning to 'Descendants' and Her Dream Role as Starfire

Malia Baker returns as Chloe Charming in the Disney sequel Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, which began streaming on Disney Plus in July 2026.

The 20-year-old actress steps back into the Disney franchise as one of the faces leading its next generation. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she reflected on the shift in perspective from her first film to the new sequel.

How Does It Feel to Return?

“It’s like entering this world as camp counselors this time instead of these nervous campers that we were the first time around,” Baker said. She explained that she and her co-stars felt immense pressure initially because of their love for the original films. “We put so much pressure on ourselves just because we loved the movies so much. They were so integral, not just for my formative years, but my peers as well.”

Returning also meant welcoming new cast members, friendships Baker cherishes. She is excited for audiences to meet the new characters.

What Are Malia Baker's Dream Roles?

While Chloe Charming is her current signature role, Baker has clear ambitions for the future. Sitting at the top of her list is Starfire from Teen Titans. “I love the role of Starfire, I think she’s the coolest ever she is just such a baddie in her own right,” she said, laughing. “I would swap out the blue for some pink hair any time any place.”

She also expressed interest in starring in a biopic, specifically joking with her Wicked Wonderland co-star Brandy Norwood. “I keep joking with Brandy about playing her,” Baker revealed.

Baker feels a deep connection to Chloe, having grown alongside the character over two films. “As things in your life start changing, you can find different levels and depths to whatever character you’re playing,” she noted. She hopes viewers simply enjoy the new movie, countering the idea that lighter fare isn't worthwhile. “It can seem like it’s your responsibility to not enjoy something, because it’s not as ‘serious,’” Baker said. “But I think there’s something really magical in being able to learn a great lesson while having fun.”

Reflecting on her journey from fan to franchise star, Baker remains amazed. “Sassy little me would’ve been shocked, flabbergasted, everything in between. It’s still a dream now,” she said of her younger self.
