Maitreyi Ramakrishnan Cast as Elle Woods' Nemesis in Elle Season 2

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan has been cast in the second season of the TV series Elle, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Never Have I Ever alum will play Sam, a nemesis to Lexi Minetree’s Elle Woods in the Legally Blonde prequel.

Ramakrishnan discussed the role at the recent Elle premiere in New York. “Without spoiling too much, I like my character’s dynamic in the gang because it’s not something I’ve done before,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. Her character, Sam, has been described as possessing Elle’s ambition but none of her optimism, serving as the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper and an “enemy of joy.”

She’s portrayed as the “commissioner of the grammar police” and someone whose “holy grail” is the AP Stylebook, positioning her as a sharp contrast to the fashion-forward Elle Woods.

Having worked with Mindy Kaling on Never Have I Ever and now with Reese Witherspoon on Elle, Ramakrishnan shared her perspective on the two powerhouse producers. “The biggest thing they have in common, I would say, is that they are both women with audacity, and that’s why I think they hire women with audacity as well,” she said. She described both as hard-working women dedicated to telling good stories.
