“a guy with a poet’s soul and a con-man’s dreams who’s been stuck running his family’s funeral home for decades.”
Louis Cancelmi has been cast as a series regular in the Hulu pilot "Chicks," according to Deadline. He joins previously announced leads Ellen Pompeo and Jodie Whittaker in the family dramedy.
Cancelmi will portray Danny McKeever, a character described as a guy with a poet’s soul and a con-man’s dreams who has been stuck running his family’s funeral home for decades. In the story, his luck changes when his high school sweetheart and her sister saunter back into his life.
What is 'Chicks' about?
The pilot, from writer and executive producer Katie Robbins, is set in the rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods of old Boston. It follows estranged half-sisters Chickie (Pompeo) and Doreen (Whittaker), who are struggling to get by when their father dies. Their only inheritance is a legacy of small-time crime, which inspires them to run increasingly audacious frauds. As their con grows, so does their odd-couple bond.
The project is based on an original idea Robbins developed specifically for Pompeo, inspired by conversations the two had on the set of the Hulu limited series "Good American Family." Pompeo and Robbins executive produce alongside Laura Holstein.
Cancelmi was most recently seen in Julian Schnabel’s "In The Hand Of Dante" and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s "The Bride!" On television, he recently appeared in Apple TV’s "Government Cheese" and HBO Max’s "The Penguin."
