How did Jack Martin get the role?
According to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Martin actively pursued the part. "I really wanted to be in it, and I just got really lucky," he said. His audition was a positive experience, especially his interaction with creator Mindy Kaling. "That’s the nicest person in an audition room I’ve ever interacted with," Martin recalled. He praised her for being polite, thoughtful, and generous with notes.

Martin was particularly excited to book the role because his friend, actor Will Angus, was also cast in the series. "I freaked out. I got so excited," Martin said upon learning the news. Martin says if the show is renewed for a second season, he and Angus plan to convince Duvernay to live with them.
