Hollywood veterans Jeffrey Schenck, Barry Barnholtz, and Peter Sullivan have launched VertTV, a subscription platform and studio for vertical micro-series, according to Deadline.

The trio, who previously collaborated at Hybrid, are applying a traditional television network mindset to the mobile-first format. The platform rolled out with a development slate of original titles, including a reunion of "Fuller House" favorites Marla Sokoloff, Jodie Sweetin, and John Brotherton.

What is VertTV?

VertTV is described as a premium filmmaker-led studio delivering high-stakes, cinematic genre television for mobile audiences. The subscription platform features snackable, fast-paced vertical episodes designed for on-the-go viewing. It has launched with a standalone mobile app for iOS and Android devices, as well as a YouTube channel with select previews.

Content on the app is organized into dedicated programming verticals, including drama/thriller, revenge and secrets, romance and desire, and holiday. The platform also launches with a vault of more than 200 exclusive titles spanning television, streaming, and independent film.

What is on the development slate?

The initial development slate kicks off with "Lone Star Hearts," starring Cindy Busby and Josh Henderson. Other announced projects include "Finding Hope," a small-town drama written and directed by Marla Sokoloff that reunites Sweetin and Brotherton, and "Wicked Wives," an ensemble murder-mystery executive produced by and starring Vivica A. Fox.

In a statement to Deadline, Schenck explained the vision. "We know that these viewers are increasingly consuming content on their mobile devices, but they are tired of the disposable, low-quality options currently flooding the market," he said. "VertTV is applying a traditional television network mindset to this exciting new format, ensuring that micro-series finally receive the star power and creative respect they deserve."

Barnholtz framed the launch as the natural evolution of content distribution for independent film. Sullivan added that the fundamental creative challenge of keeping an audience captivated remains the same, whether for a feature film or an 80-episode micro-series.

Based in Los Angeles, VertTV plans to directly employ television and film directors, screenwriters, crews, and actors. The company controls its entire production pipeline in-house. Post-launch, the platform plans to introduce ad-supported and à la carte viewing options.
