Ed Harris Confirms Return to 'Dutton Ranch' for Season 2 After Showrunner Change

Ed Harris will return for the second season of Paramount+'s "Dutton Ranch," according to Deadline. The Oscar-nominated actor will reprise his role as Everett McKinney.

Harris stars alongside Annette Bening and "Yellowstone" alums Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser in the spin-off series. His return follows a turbulent first season where he felt his character was underutilized.

What did Ed Harris say about Season 1?

In a red carpet interview with Variety, Harris was candid about his experience. "Midway through this first season, I was ready to go, I said, ‘Get me the f*ck out of here,’ to tell you the truth," he said. "Because I didn’t feel like I was being used… I felt a little bit misled."

He elaborated that he was promised a more significant part before signing on. "Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do, and that I was one of the four main characters. And that wasn’t really the case."

How are the show's producers responding?

According to Deadline's report, Harris's concerns were heeded. The recent change at the helm of "Dutton Ranch," with creator Chad Feehan let go as showrunner, was reportedly related to how Harris's character was utilized. Harris is said to have been involved in picking the new showrunner, Benjamin Cavell.

His character is now expected to be "front and center" in the upcoming season. The series, from 101 Studios and Paramount TV Studios, is currently being written for its second season, with Harris kept in the loop.
