Afterlife with Archie Animated Series Ordered at Disney+ From Riverdale Producers

Disney+ has ordered an animated series adaptation of the comic book series Afterlife with Archie, according to TV Series Finale. The project is slated to premiere on the streaming service in Halloween 2027.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the comic's co-creator, and Greg Berlanti, known for The Flash and Riverdale, will serve as executive producers. The series is a production from Warner Bros. Television.

What is the premise of the series?

The show will take the classic Archie characters into a supernatural horror story. According to the official logline, a teen witch's spell backfires, unleashing an army of the possessed dead upon the town of Riverdale. Archie and his friends must then fight to survive, testing their friendships, romances, and loyalties.

Who is involved in the production?

Aguirre-Sacasa, who also created Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, called the project a "full-circle moment." He said in a statement, "This was the comic book that started it all. Before there was a 'Riverdale,' before there was a 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,' there was 'Afterlife with Archie.'"

Berlanti and his producing partner Sarah Schechter added that they are "so happy to reunite with Roberto on this exciting series that takes us back into the Riverdale world that we so love." Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, stated the series is "equal parts thrilling and heartfelt." The executive producer team also includes Jimmy Gibbons, Leigh London Redman, and Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater.
