Universal Pictures International UK & Eire commissioned a 36-foot-tall replica of the Trojan Horse for the world premiere of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey in London last week, according to Variety.
The massive prop, an exact replica of the one used in the film, was built from the production's blueprints using polystyrene, steel, resin, tin foil, and fiberglass. A team of - people worked for 288 hours to construct it.
How big was the Trojan Horse?
The horse stood over two stories tall and was visible from several streets away from the Leicester Square premiere. Transporting and assembling it was a major logistical feat. It was delivered in four parts on three trucks, and a team of six people spent nine hours putting it together on the blue, sand-patched carpet.
Where will the horse go next?
Ahead of the film's release on July 17, the London horse will be reassembled in Trafalgar Square for one day on July 13. It will then be displayed outside the Westfield London shopping mall for four days starting July 16.
While that horse remains in the UK, two other Trojan Horses are touring the United States. The original prop from the film is on display outside the AMC Universal Cinema at Universal Studios' CityWalk. A second replica has been traveling, appearing in Venice, Texas, and Miami last month, and is scheduled for the US premiere at AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York this Tuesday.
