How did the partnership work?
Through its long-running “Disney Movie Moments” program, the company made the film available for screenings in more than 400 children’s hospitals. Over 300 of those facilities are in the United States. The program transforms hospital spaces into immersive events for patients and their families.
At the film’s Los Angeles premiere, the studio set up a unique red carpet activation. Cast members including Tim Allen, Greta Lee, and Tony Hale stopped at a life-size interactive lily pad to write messages of encouragement for the children. "This is amazing! Disney is sending Toy Story to all these fantastic kids in hospitals around the nation," said Hale.
What was the goal?
Lisa Haines, Disney’s senior vice president of corporate social responsibility, explained the intent. "Toy Story has always celebrated the connections that bring us together, and the cast, crew and premiere guests carried that spirit onto the red carpet by writing personal messages for children in hospitals before the world even saw the film," she said. The handwritten notes were displayed at hospitals in Washington, D.C., Oakland, and Orlando, where children also received surprise visits from Woody and Jessie characters and drawing sessions with Pixar animators.
