Lilly Wachowski Joins Alexandra Grey's Sci-Fi Short 'The Day Before'

Lilly Wachowski has joined the indie sci-fi short film “The Day Before” as an executive producer, according to a report from Variety. The “Matrix” and “Sense8” co-creator is now attached to the project from writer-director-star Alexandra Grey.

Grey leads the ensemble cast, which includes Matthew Law (“Nemesis,” “Abbott Elementary”), Jamie Clayton (“Sense8,” “Hellraiser”), and Alexander David Pleasant (“Abbott Elementary”). The short film is set on the eve of NASA’s most ambitious space mission, following Dr. Erynne Washington (Grey), the first astronaut selected for a historic one-way journey to Mars.

What is the film about?

The story focuses on Erynne spending one final day on Earth with her husband, Marcus (Law), and their young son, Noah (Pleasant), knowing she will never return home. Jamie Clayton plays news anchor Caroline Shaw. The project recently wrapped production in Los Angeles and is being positioned for a 2027 festival premiere.

Grey produces under her Bishop Street Production banner. The producing team also includes two-time Emmy-nominated producer Zackary Drucker (“The Stroll,” “Transparent”), Jonathan Olson, and Student Academy Award-winning producer Ilayda Cetinkaya.
