Daniel Ings, Jessica Brown Findlay Star in Olivia Grant's 'The Two Week Wait'

Daniel Ings and Jessica Brown Findlay are starring in Olivia Grant’s directorial debut, a short film titled The Two Week Wait, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is set to premiere on Tuesday at the Indy Shorts Film Festival.

Grant, an actor known for roles in Stardust and Lark Rise to Candleford, wrote the script based on her personal experiences with IVF. The story follows a woman in her late thirties, played by Brown Findlay, who faces dissociative experiences while navigating her deteriorating mental health during the IVF process alongside her boyfriend, played by Ings.

What is the film about?

The film chronicles a woman's painstaking experience with IVF and infertility. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Grant explained that the project originated from a diary she kept during her own struggles. "It was COVID that changed that; firstly because it cleared time to focus on generating new work and, secondly, because it coincided with my personal struggles with IVF and its mental toll," she said. Grant added that she felt a need to shed light on the "profound interpersonal effects" of a process that is often kept private.

Who else is involved?

The supporting cast includes Fenella Woolgar, Rick Warden, and Sophie Colquhoun. The film is a co-production between Grant's Cavalry Films and Symphony Films, headed by actor-producers Rebecca Night and Harry Hadden-Paton. Night described the script as "so instantly unique, compelling and beautiful." She added, "[It] deals with the choices we make, the relationships we foster, and people seeking love and connection as they journey together through life’s struggles. Full of drama, yes, but so witty and heart-wrenching too."

Daniel Ings praised Grant as "a singular new voice in British filmmaking, with a lot to say on some fairly universal themes affecting many women." The Two Week Wait serves as a proof of concept for a planned feature-length narrative titled Baby Mine, slated for 2027, with Ings and Brown Findlay also attached.
